Well, this is a fairly new genre of tattoos, and it’s debatable whether this is a step forwards or backwards. While nobody can deny the incredible visuals of the video game world are excellent material for tattoos, with bright colours and cartoon-like styles, is it really a good idea to dedicate your arm to Sonic the Hedgehog, forever? Hmmm…

The world of Polynesian and Maori tattoos has been thrown into the limelight in the last few years, firstly by Robbie William and more lately (and quite probably more suitably) by The Rock, the famous film star and wrestler who has an impressive design which is intricate, large and tells a rather in-depth life story, which is just what these tattoos have always been about.
The image below is a great example of modern Polynesian style tattoos and although perhaps lacking the cultural authenticity of some, the work shown at The Polynesian Tattoo Factory is nonetheless inspired and very well done!

Polynesian Inspired Design
Some very nice work over at Obscurities Tattoos & Piercings, including the incredible phoenix as seen below…

Phoenix Tattoo
We came across this really cool design on flickr.com.

Great little tattoo design!
It’s a great little loose design that uses skin space really well – not too much ink makes it really effective.

Check out the Into You website for some amazing artwork by Mr X. It’s not to everyone’s taste but his extremely bold and simple style is pretty original and impressive, even if a lot of the subject matter is the usual same-old-stuff.

Westlife Portraits Tattoo
Well, the tributes to musical geniuses keep appearing. Like the Britney tattoo, this one has to be commended for it’s sheer quality and taste. The ‘Avante Garde harmonies’ (that’s singing out of tune, to you and me) of Westlife really are a cause for celebration.
The identity of the wearer has been obscured for humanitarian reasons.

Britney Spears Shaved Head Tattoo
All I can say is well done to the owner if this tattoo, it is absolutely brilliant.
Britney Spears is an undisputed musical genius and her rise and fall deserves to be commemorated in this way. The Chinese ribs caught between her teeth effect is spot on, too. I really wish I’d thought of this first, though.
Oh well.
Stroll on.
